Ares Martial Arts Academy

Hapkido is more than just another traditional martial art.  It is well suited for men and women of all ages and sizes because physical strength and athletic abilities are not essential. The style employs joint locks, pressure points, throws, hand strikes, low-lying kicks, and trains practitioners to either counter or preemptively strike an imminent attack to defend one's self. In common with many Hapkido styles, it also emphasizes small circular motion, control of an opponent through force redirection. Practitioners seek to gain advantage through footwork, distractive striking and body positioning to employ leverage.

Ares Martial Arts Academy does not incorporate certain traditional Hapkido techniques which it deemed impractical for modern self-defense scenarios. For example, acrobatic break falls, jump/spinning kicks, forms, and meditation have been omitted, along with the removal of weapons such as swords and other weapons which would be impractical and not typically carried in modern society. Hapkido's strategy differs from traditional Hapkido because it includes adopting features from styles like Jeet Kune Do, Jujutsu and Kick Boxing to enhance its core curriculum. All techniques have been tested and include both standing and ground techniques.

Lucas Jordan has a 3rd Degree Black Belt in two styles of Hapkido. Lucas is a Charter Member with the American Hapkido Federation. Lucas Jordan continues to train by attending seminars and training events during the year.

Striking:  Focuses on developing striking-based skill-sets that allow you to defend against a variety of street and sport-based attacks including punches, kicks, knees, elbows, etc – and gives you the ability to respond instinctively and naturally with a diverse attacking “arsenal”.  Striking truly turns your whole body into a weapon.  Everything about you becomes a dangerous tool that can finish your opponent(s) at any moment.

Grappling: Focuses on grappling-based skill-sets: throws & take downs, Joint Locks, escapes & counters, attacks and submission fighting.

Weapons:   Focuses on defending against weapons and using weapons in combat. (gun, knife, and stick)
